Crazy for Coconut: a Giveaway

Posted by Kolchak on April 10, 2012.

So, remember how a while back we started taking coconut oil?

Oh come on, yes you do! Remember? I (the Mama) looked like a blowfish? The Felix had dry skin? The nice folks at Tropical Traditions were nice enough to let us try their Coconut Oil for Pets?! Casa de Kolchak was all cuckoo for coconut. There were a lot of things we liked about the Tropical Traditions Expeller Pressed Coconut Oil for Pets (You can read our full review here) and it got us thinking about all the ways we could use coconut oil in the house. We were really excited to try another product from Tropical Traditions: the Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil.

How is the Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil different from the Expeller Pressed Coconut Oil for Pets?

It’s all comes down to how it’s made. In our last review, we told you how the expeller pressed oil is made may literally squeezing the oil out of copra (dried coconut) using some fancy schmancy machines, then it is refined using steam, leaving it with a smoky neutral flavour. The Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is wet-milled from fresh coconut, then cold pressed and left to sit while the coconut oil naturally rises to the top and the coconut milk sinks to the bottom. The resulting coconut oil is excellent quality containing high levels of antioxidants and a delicious coconut-y flavour. Also, since the Coconut Oil for Pets is well, just for pets, I was excited to try a product that the whole family could use.
All about coconut.
One of the things I love about Tropical Traditions is how much information they share on their site. If you are interested (and trust me, I am) there is hours of reading material about coconut oil and ways to use it, research on the health & benefits and a whole bunch of tasty recipes that I can’t wait to try.
If you’re not much for reading, they also have a ton of videos on their YouTube channel.
There are videos about the benefits of coconut oil, using coconut oil for your hair, recipes and more. It’s a great resource if you want to learn more.
Right off the bat, I noticed that the dogs were really excited about the flavour.

They are both huge fans of coconut and, as am I. They both line up to take their oil, gobbling it off the spoon like it’s ice cream. Felix, who had a bit of a coughing issue with the Expeller Pressed Oil for Pets, LOVES this Gold Label Virgin Coconut oil and he has been doing much better with it.
I love to cook with it.

Long ago, we banned margarine from the house and I try not to cook too much with butter. I have been using coconut oil a lot in Kolchak’s Kitchen and I love the slight bit of coconut-ty flavour that it adds to curries, breads, pancakes (oh the pancakes) and especially to baked goods. Last night we made Baked Coconut Oatmeal Bar dog treats and they were so good that I ate three of them. LOL, yes, the people eat dog treats here at Casa de Kolchak.
We’re crazy for coconut oil.
We really like the Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil from Tropical Traditions. I loved the fact that it was good for both the pups and the people at our house and we all loved the flavour. The fact that it is USDA certified organic and made with responsible methods is totally a bonus. I am also impressed with the Tropical Tradition pricing. Prior to this, we bought a similar oil at our local health food store for almost 20% more.
the Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is frequently on sale too.
Do you want to try coconut oil?

The folks at Tropical Traditions are giving away a 1 qt. jar of their Gold Label Coconut Oil, so that you can try it for yourself.
