Big Dogs Work It Out with a Varsity Ball Giveaway

Posted by the Mama (aka Jodi) on June 16, 2012.

I have two small dogs and frankly, they exhaust me.

I don’t know HOW you big dog people do it. I read about how Shiva at Rescued Insanity is like running with a tornado and I cringe a bit because I worry that I could never keep up with her, in like a bajlliion years.  (Actually, I’m sure I couldn’t.) I’m always intrigued by ways a big dog could get some extra exercise, since I would love love love to have a pit bull again one day.The Varsity Ball looks like a fun way to tucker your big dog out!

Designed as a toy of high energy, athletic dogs, the Varsity Ball is a great way to get your big dog a total body workout. Through natural play, this ball will have your dog running, jumping, crouching and pouncing, using muscles all over their body, as well as giving a great cardio workout.

I know what you’re thinking, that’s just a ball.

WRONG! Actually, it’s better than a ball. It weighs in at a heavy 3 1/2 lbs, so your dog is playing with more than just air. That may not sound like much weight, but just that added little bit means your dog is toning and strengthening muscles, while they play.

Some dogs prefer to bite at the ball and chase. Others like to pounce on it and some like to herd it around. They can grab it or bat at t with their paws. The ways to play are only as limited as your dog’s imagination. The size of the ball is designed to help mimic the way a dog would play with an actual playmate; when your pet tries to bite it or pin it down, it will roll away, so your dog can chase after it again.

I know what you’re thinking.”If my dog tries to bite it, that ball is dead. ::scoffs::”

Did I mention that this ball is INDESTRUCTIBLE?

Yeah, that’s straight from the manufacturer. They’re giving you a 110% GUARANTEE that your dog can’t destroy this thing. I’ll be honest with you: I was more than a little skeptical. You read a lot about “indestructible” dog toys and with very few exceptions, I’ve been disappointed. I didn’t really see how the ball could be that sturdy. I mean, what’s it made of? Magic.

Um, apparently yes. If these guys can’t destroy the ball, it *must* be indestructible.

I think your dog is going to be just fine with it!

(PS – um, cuuuuuuuute!) There’s this survey* that says the average pet owner spends more than $100/year on easily destroyed toys and I thought “Only $100?! Welcome to Casa de Kolchak, where disposable income goes to die!

At $39.99 + Shipping, the Varsity Ball might seem a little pricey, but when you think about how long it will actually last, the price seems a lot more reasonable. We paid $10.00 for a regular rubber ball the other day and Kolchak had killed it within an hour. It’s worth paying a little more to get a ball that might stay round long enough to actually play with!

Varsity Ball wants to give your big dog the chance to try it for themselves.

Kol’s Notes: We were not compensated for this post, nor have we tried the Varsity Ball ourselves (as they do not make one size appropriate for my dogs), but I would not hesitate to use it if one were available. Varsity Ball is providing the prize for this giveaway.
