Things I Learned at #BlogPaws: Isn’t that Pinteresting? Pt. 1

Posted by Kolchak on July 6, 2012.

the Mama has abandoned me to go on vacation. Again. This is just not woofing acceptable. I can only hope that she has decided to do something productive with her time and that this is actually her Pintervention. That woman is a Pinterest Addict. I did not appreciate the fact that Caroline from High Paws Media actually gave the Mama permission to PIN MORE. Um, Caroline? She’s already pinning all the time and totally strung out when she can’t get to the computer. Now she’s claiming that Pinterest can be a totally useful blog marketing tool, if you know how to use it. Apparently, she’s got a lot to say on the topic and so, I’m (reluctantly) handing the blog over to her.

I don’t think it’s any secret that I’m Pinterest Obsessed.

When I first got on the Pinterest, I was initially not overly enthused. I was totally this girl.
I have never looked back. I’m in love with the Pinterest. I was totally jazzed to see there was a Pinterest session at Blogpaws, so that I could learn more about how to use this tool to promote Kol’s Notes (and actually have an excuse for all the time I spend on there. How awesome would it be to consider Pinterest a part of “work”?)
Not that Pinterested? Here’s why you SHOULD be.

  • Pinterest is now the 3rd most popular social network n the US. (Experian) That’s right. Facebook. Twitter. Pinterest. At the time of the study, there were 10.4 MILLION Pinterest users and it’s still growing.
  • Pinterest is engaging and retaining users 2 – 3 times as efficiently as Twitter did at a similar time in their history. (I’ll be honest, I don’t really “get” the Twitter. As a very visual gal, I love the multi-sensory, interactive approach to Pinterest.) (RJMetrics)

  • American users spend an average of 97.8 minutes on Pinterest. (eMarketerHoly woof! That is a lot of time. Imagine holding an audience’s attention for that long? To give that stat a little perspective, the average time spent on a website is 5.23 minutes. (Google Analytics via FrogLoop)
  • More than 2 million Pinterest users are online daily.
OK, so obviously you should be on the Pinterest.

Social media is a HUGE part of blog marketing and Pinterest is just the next natural step in our marketing prowess. I love love loved one of the things that Caroline shared with us. (Please excuse my really crappy paraphrasing.)

By getting in on the ground floor of Pinterest,
we (the animal advocate community) have the power to shape what it will become.

  • Did you know that call-to-action description on a Pin sees an 80% increase in engagement?  WOOF! What an amazing opportunity for us! Imagine all the adoptable animals we could share via re-pinning?
Here a sweet gal I pinned today with a call-to-action
to re-pin her and a link to her Petfinder profile.
It’s a great opportunity for our Tasty Tuesday Blog Hoppers!

  • Tutorial, DIY and Recipe posts see a 42% higher click through rate than other pins. (Pinerly) I love discovering great new recipes on Pinterest. I post our Tasty Tuesday recipes to Pinterest and (according to Google Analytics) 65% of our new traffic starts from Pinterest. What an amazing traffic source! Did you find us through Pinterest? We’d love to hear from you!

Shoppers referred from Pinterest are 10% more likely to make a purchase

Plus, on average, they spend 10% more. (Wayfair) Are you selling something? PIN IT. Pin. It. Now.
OK, this post is getting long and I could go on for like 11 million more hours.

Apparently this is going to be a part 1 of 2, eh? We covered a lot of ground in our Pinterest session and Caroline had some fantastic ideas for how we can incorporate Pinterest into our marketing, plus some Pinterest best practices that I really want to share!

Are you on the Pinterest?

We’d love to follow you! And you should go right now and follow our boards too!
