15 Ideas for Surviving the Muddy Season with Dogs

 Spring has sprung, yo!

In some places like Vancouver, we’re getting lots of bright sunny days mixed with these crazy down pours that leaves the ground muddy as woof. In other areas, the Spring thaw has just started with the snow melting away, leaving muddy pits behind. There’s almost no escaping it (unless you live in one of those magical climates with no precipitation and then, frankly, I’m jealous.) Things are both easier and harder this year. We don’t have a yard with a giant mud puddle in it anymore, instead we’ve had to figure out how to clean our muddy paws before we traipse through the lobby of our apartment. (Nothing says “I’m a terrible neighbour” like leaving muddy pawprints all over the common areas.) After a lifetime of living in a place where Spring means mud, we’ve developed a few strategies for managing the muddy season with dogs. Not all strategies will work in all homes, but I guarantee, if you’re battling mud, something here can help.

I'm confused. Isn't every day "the muddy season" when you live in Vancouver? <3

We don't get a lot of rain, but in spring the marine layer gets pretty heavy, so the grass gets all dewy and then walking on the dirt trails...well produces a lot of muddy paws. Thanks for the tip - we gave one of these away in our FDF giveaway - I may need one for myself!

Yes! It's those kinda wet, not really dry days that make the worst messy mud and dirt trails? Recipe for disaster!

Lots of towels, and Mom does "our" laundry a lot this time of year!

Me too! I feel like I wash way more dog stuff than human stuff!
