Today’s Tasty Tuesday Treat is so good that the Felix was willing to do tricks to get one.

IMG_4195

Yeah. That’s a big deal, you guys. The Felix doesn’t do  tricks. He’s thinks he’s above it or something. It took him close to two years to master “sit” and even then, the Mama suspects that he’s not obeying a command, more “doing whatever I do until treats rain from the sky”.

Whatever his reasons, Felix really pulled out the big guns: he stood up on his hind legs and begged for a treat. I was embarrassed for him. So embarrassed. You know Felix, if you keep acting like that, Mama is going to expect it. Then what? I don’t want to have to sing for my supper.

Still Mama’s new Banana Carob Marble Dog Treats are pretty darn tasty.

It’s hard to fault the Felix too much for wanting to have one or two (or ten). These treats look way fancier than they are. Mama was actually very surprised by how quickly and easily these came together. (Mama’s Note: Plus if your dog happens to be WAY LESS DEMANDING than my spoiled puggle, you can make the easy version that takes exactly the same without the added work of “marbling”.)

Banana Carob Marble Dog Treat Recipe

Materials

  • 1 medium, over-ripe banana
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tbsp. honey
  • 3 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 c. + 1/4 c. oat flour
  • 1/4 c. carob powder

Instructions

The Mama is a Show Off, Fancy Pants Way

Preheat oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment.

In a medium bowl, mash banana. Beat together with eggs, coconut oil, honey, cinnamon & baking powder. Stir in 1 1/4 c. oat flour.

Divide dough into two portions, approximately 1 cup each. To the first portion add 1/4 c. oat flour. To the second portion, add 1/4 c. carob powder. Both should form a stiff, non sticky dough.

Split the banana and the carob doughs into 5 smaller balls each. Stick the dough balls together, alternating colours, to form a larger, marbled dough ball.

Between two layers of plastic wrap, roll out dough to approximately 1/4" thick, working it as little as possible. (The more you knead and work the dough, the less marbled it will look. By the time I had rolled out the dough for the fourth time, it was pretty much solid brown.) Cut into bones (or any other shape).

Lay out cookies on your baking sheet. Since they do not spread much, you can place them fairly close together. Bake for 10 minutes, then flip and bake 10 minutes longer. For a crunchier cookie, reduce heat to 150F and bake for 3 - 4 hours, until crisp all the way through.

Much Easier (Tastes Exactly the Same) Way

Preheat oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment.

In a medium bowl, mash banana. Beat together with eggs, coconut oil, honey, cinnamon & baking powder. Stir in all of the oat flour and the carob powder.

Between two layers of plastic wrap, roll out dough to approximately 1/4" thick, then cut into bones (or whatever shape strikes your fancy).

These are so tasty that the Mama insisted on sharing.

She ate FOUR before I could even stop her. What the woof, eh? (Mama’s note: These aren’t very sweet at all, so they aren’t much like a traditional cookie. For a Mama like me who is trying to drastically reduce my sugar intake, they were just right.)

Does your human ever eat your snacks?
