So you know what they say about art imitating life eh?

No? Me neither. What do I care about hat kind of thing, I’m just a dog. I could care less if art is ripping of life’s style. I’ve got bigger things to worry about like how I’m going to get all the stuffing out of my new toy and whether or not I can scam a second breakfast out of Daddy.

The only imitation I’m concerned about is when dog food imitates human food.

That’s the case this Tasty Tuesday. Inspired by one of her favourite human foods, the Mama decided she absolutely HAD to make it into a dog treat.

They look pretty good, right? Well, they taste pretty good too. The tasty sweet potato combined with the spicy cinnamon and ginger reminded the Mama of her own favourite Ginger Sweet Potato Pie and she couldn’t help but try one. (Turns out, she’d still prefer the human pie, which is just fine with me, because frankly, I might flip the woof out if she eats another one of my treats.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups brown rice flour
  • 2 extra large eggs
  • 3/4 cup baked sweet potato
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
  • about 1/4 cup cold water

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet (or two) with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat

In a small bowl, lightly beat the eggs. Add sweet potato and mash with a fork until mostly smooth. (Don't be afraid to leave it a little chunky.) Stir in brown rice flour, cinnamon and ginger, until it forms a dry dough. Add cold water 1 tbsp. at a time until the dough is firm, but not sticky.

Roll out dough to about 1/8 - 3/16" thick. Cut out with cookie cutters (or if you're lazy as woof, like apparently the Mama is this week), just slice the dough into squares, using a knife or a pizza cutter. (I also recomend poking them once with a fork. Just stick a fork in 'em, wiggle it a bit and pull it back out, otherwise they'll get a bit puffy & misshapen - like mine did. You'd think I would know better by now, eh??)

Place cookies on the baking trays and bake for 20 - 25 minutes until the bottom is golden brown. Flip the treats and bake an additional 20 minutes.

Allow the treats to cool completely, then store in an airtight container.

Bone Appetit!

Do your humans ever make you treats inspired by their favourite human foods. What flavours?
