Easy, Dog Silhouette Art (That You can Update With the Seasons)

A few months back, I made a custom painted serving tray featuring none other than my Kolchak, using Stylish Canine vinyl decals as my stencil. I’m a classic over-shopper, so after that project was done, I still had a handful of vinyl puggle silhouettes left and I’ve been looking for a fun (and easy) way to use them.

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a good holiday theme.

I’m one of those crazy festive people who even changes out the photos in their photo frames so that they’re in keeping with the most recent holiday or season. When it occurred to me that if vinyl decals stuck to window glass that they would also stick to picture frame glass, I knew exactly what I wanted to make:

Holy woof you guys! How have I never thought of this before? The whole project took less than 5 minutes, it was so easy there’s (almost) no way to screw it up and it will be SUPER simple to change and update for each holiday.

You want in? Here’s what you need:

  • 1 – 8 x 10 frame that matches your home decor (Make sure you get one that has glass, not that cheap plastic)
  • 1 Vinyl Decal in the breed of your choice (I got mine at Stylish Canine)
  • Scrapbook paper (I went ahead and chose 12 different patterns)

This is how we do it:

Take the glass from the frame. Wash and dry it carefully.

Remove the backing from the vinyl decal and apply it to the front of the glass. Use a credit card to smooth out any air bubbles.

Take your scrapbook paper and cut it to the same size as your frame. I chose to buy 12 patterns and cut them down all at once. I can put all 12 paper pieces in the frame and just rotate them, making it easy to change the design every month.

Place your glass back into the frame, decal side out. (I thought it looked better this way, since I’m a crummy “air bubble smoother outer” and there were still an awful lot of little air bubbles. If you’re more patient than I am, feel free to turn yours so the decal is on the inside.) Choose a paper pattern to go behind it and place the backing on the frame.

Display in your home or office, changing the background paper as often as desired.

See, I told you this one was easy 😉
