DIY Dog House Gift Boxes

One of my favourite parts of the holidays is fancy wrapping all the presents.

Seriously! I take great satisfaction in looking under the tree and seeing a heap of gifts, wrapped in shiny papers, curly ribbons and sparkly bows. I enjoy just as much as the actual presents, to be honest. Maybe next year we’ll just wrap a bunch of empty boxes and save everyone the money!

I think the right wrap can make your gift even more special.

After creating my DIY Gift Tags for Dog Lovers, I wanted to tackle an even bigger gift wrap challenge: gift boxes for dog lovers. At first, I head my heart set on a dog bone shaped box, but so far, I haven’t perfected the design. (I will though and it will be glorious!) After some careful though and consideration, I decided to make tiny dog houses out of card stock.

DIY Dog House Gift Boxes

These tiny gift boxes are 2.5″ x 2.5″ square and a cute & easy way to wrap small gifts for the dog lover in your life (or to fill with snacks for your favourite dog!)

The best part? They’re SO EASY.

Here’s what you need:

The Kol’s Notes Dog House Gift Box template (Click here to get it.)

Patterned Cardstock

Black Cardstock

Black marker

Glue Stick

1/4″ Holiday Ribbon

Print the dog house gift box template on your card stock. (Make sure you’re using cardstock and not just scrapbook paper. Scracpbook paper is too lightweight and your box will have trouble holding it’s shape. If you can’t find patterned cardstock, you can use plain cardstock glued to decorative scrapbook paper to get the best of both worlds.)

Um, duh. I should have printed this on the WHITE side of the paper.

Cut out your box and draw a dog door and greeting onto the front. This is also super cute if you put the gift recipient’s name over the door.

Fold the box along the dotted lines.  Place glue on the flaps of the left & right panels. Press paper together and allow glue to dry. (If necessary, you can use clothes pins to hold the sides in place while the glue sets.)

Fill your box with something special for a special dog lover. I think these are perfect for holding jewelry.

Cut a 3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangle out of black cardstock. Fold in half and use the scissors to cut a 1/4″ slit on either end of the piece.  Thread the ribbon through the slits.

Sit the roof on the dog house base and secure in place with the ribbon, tying it with a neat bow on top.

That’s it! Present your gift to someone you care about and see them smile.

I like wrapping but prefer to do it with reusable Christmas fabric bags to be more environmentally friendly.
