The Mama has one of those weekends. You know the ones. The kind where your human lacks focus, doesn’t get anything done and is distracted by every shiny object that comes into their line of vision? The Mama was a worse assistant than usual this weekend. She didn’t even make me treats. WHAT THE WOOF IS SHE DOING?
I put my paw down when she got home tonight.
Yes, it was late. Yes, she was tired, but No! She most certainly was NOT going to be skipping Tasty Tuesday. This is a dog treat blog, for woofing out loud. You can’t phone that in. You either made tasty treats…or you didn’t. Luckily, she pulled out an old favourite and whipped it up, just in the knick of time.
- 1 cup ground beef
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 1/2 cooked broccoli, finely diced
- 3/4 cup tapioca flour
- 3/4 cup potato flour
- (plus extra flour for rolling out dough)
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup water
Preheat oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
In a bowl, mix together ground beef, cheese, broccoli, egg and water. Add flour a little at a time, incorporating into the beef mix.
Flour your counter with tapioca flour. Turn out half the dough onto the counter. Roll out to 1/8" to 3/16" thick. (If you roll them too thick, they will not bake in the center and your dog will be very disappointed.)
Use a cookie cutter to cut dough into shapes. Lay out the shapes on your lined baking sheet. Bake for 25 - 30 minutes, until the bottom of the dough is golden brown. Flip cookies and return to oven. Bake for an additional 25 - 30 minutes, until the dough is cooked though.
