Your Challenge (should you choose to accept it) is to walk for 60 minutes this week.
Why Walking? Walking is all sorts of good for your body. Studies show that walking can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, lower blood pressure, reduce high cholesterol and improve blood lipid profile, reduce body fat, enhance mental well-being, increase bone density & help prevent osteoporosis, reduce the risk of Type-2 diabetes and more. Walks are also good for Fido, providing a much needed outlet for energy and helping to burn off a few of those Scooby Snacks!
You know that runner’s high everyone is always talking about?
Well, we believe that walking is the Gateway drug. Once you get in the habit of walking with your dog, you’ll want to do more and more fun, fitness activities with Fido. The great news is that most dogs have an insatiable appetite for walking and they are happy to go where ever you may lead them. We hope that the K9 Kamp challenges will encourage you to find little ways to add fun & fitness to your everyday routine.
Make it Your Own
The great thing about getting fit with Fido at K9 Kamp is that you can customize each challenge so that it works for YOU. No fancy rules, no crazy equipment. Just you, your dog, a leash and a collar.
Ready to walk?
Start with a “warm up walk” by walking at a normal pace for a few minutes. Once you are good & warm, start walking at a brisk pace that challenges you, but does not leave you gasping for breath. (A good brisk walk burns more belly & liver fat than a casual stroll!) You should be able to carry on a conversation as you walk. If you can’t, you might be working too hard!
Remember to watch your walking posture! Swing your arms, keep your head up, back straight and abs flat. Point your toes straight ahead and take long strides, but don’t strain.
Keep your pup’s head in the game by encouraging them to keep moving, instead of stopping to sniff & small their way down the street. My neighbors probably think I’m nuts, but I am constantly encouraging Koly to “Keep It Up Puggle!” or “Come On Koly” while we work out.
Not ready for 60 full minutes of fitness fun? Do you live on the face of the sun and have to exercise before dawn or after dusk? Try splitting the 60 minute challenge up into smaller blocks so that it works for your fitness level and schedule. Kamp is easily split into:
- 1 – 60 minute Session
- 2 – 30 minute Sessions
- 3 – 20 minute Sessions
- 4 – 15 minute Sessions
Pups and their people who are up to the challenge can even try jogging or running together to add an extra punch to their workout.
To get you motivated, our fabulous K9 Kamp sponsors have got more than $1000 in awesome prizes for us to give away!
We have a new and exciting prize package every single week, plus a Grand Prize Package that is Fabulous!
