I’m a big fan of the Earth. Especially my little section of it. I can’t say this for certain, but I am pretty sure Mother Nature was showing off when she created “beautiful, supernatural BC”. The evergreen rainforests, the ocean, the MOUNTAINS!

There’s so much great stuff on our Earth to see and so many great things to do and peoples have been conquering the Earth for hundreds of years. Well, we’re done conquering it and now we’re just beating it into submission. Why aren’t more humans kind to the Earth? We’ve only got one planet!

I’m a green conscious boy and Mama is one of those tree-huggin’, tie-dye wearin, flowers-in-your-hair modern day hippies, so at our house, we like to believe we are “planet-friendly”.

But judging by the size of my carbon pawprint, I must wear the shoes of a giant evil clown. One book estimated that a medium sized dog has the same impact as an SUV driven 6,000 miles per year!

L’il old me? As bad for the Earth as an SUV. *scoffs* But is the SUV as cute and full of snuggles as I am? Idoubtthatverymuch.

So what can Mom & I do to reduce our carbon footprint?

Buy in Bulk

We are bad for this one at our house. Since Felix has bad allergies, we buy the little bags of food and we switch brands & flavours on a regular basis. But by buying the large paper bags of food instead of the small plastic bags of food, we can significantly reduce the amount of packaging needed. Mama is going to invest in some airtight, reuseable containers and start buying the big bags.

Same goes for any monthly medication you take – like heartworm preventative. Ever notice how a ONE month supply and a TWELVE month supply come in the same sized box, with the same number of inserts & stuff? Imagine how much packaging we could save by buying in bulk? HOLY CRUMB!

Use Earth Friendly Products

Bio-degradeable poop pick up bags. Organic, natural grooming products. Recycled material toys. The sky is the limit.

One favourite at our house is water bottle buddies. These make excellent use of the wate rbottles Daddy brings home AND since they are reuseable (just pull out the old bottle and pop in a fresh one) – a toy  lasts me 6 months, instead of 6 minutes.

A big one at our house is cleaning products! You’d be AMAZED how much you can clean with white vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda! Mom’s been cleaning this way for about two years and she loves it.  BONUS – it’s way better for you and your humans. Most cleaners contain a crap load of chemicals that scare the pants of Mama. A Mama with no pants is a cranky Mama.

And hey! Why not check out this adorable line of T-Shirts from Read My Paws? Baarney & Tabaatha, along with their Mama have come u with some amazing green friendly, dog oriented t-shirts that are so cozy. Felix causes a stir everywhere he goes in his “Recycle, Adopt a Dog” T-shirt!

How are you earth-Friendly? What do you do the give Mother Nature a helping hand! BARK BACK! It’s the little things that count.

only small things with great love.”
